The protective styles I usually do are twists and cornrows. Thing is that the pulling and tightness is not necessary when doing these styles. If her edges are breaking, her edges need to be moisturized more, the use of hard brushes need to change to using softer brushes. If you are concerned about cornrows being tight, they need to be looser. Or simply do twists or plaits/braids that will not pull the hair too much. Mini twists and braids can be styled in so many different ways. I apologize for the delay in responding.
